been detecting today on a regularly flooded field by the river Dee,tons of trash like bottle tops, cans and all sorts of rubbish.
kept pulling out the ring pulls and then had a very rubbish tone, nearly walked away.
got me spade down there and i saw the yellow edge of the ring in the clod.Happy days. The weather was windy and grey but it felt grand.
how old could the spindle whorl be?
the ring came as 1863 18 carat birmingham essay
also my first half crown and a nice royal artillery cap badge

Some realy nice finds Andre. I love half crowns, they give a great signal. Not many around now, they used to turn up regularly.
Can’t see the hall marks on the ring very well but it looks like Chester.
Patterned spindle whorls are generally classed as late middle age. Not easy to pin point a precise date.

You’re right Andre, there is an anchor BUT there’s also 3 castles.
Not the first time a double hall mark has shown up.
Not sure if I can, correctly, remember the explanation but it was so thing to do with where part of it was made and I think where it was finished. (Don’t quote me on that).
Very nice find that, I like it 👍

Well done, some very nice finds indeed. I like the Royal Artillery Badge, I had two of them out of the same field a few years back.

Cheers Val.
I’ve send a picture of the ring to Pete Spencer(coin id man)
Really interested to see what he comes up with.
The badge is incomplete, the top is missing but I think it’s a really cool find.
Will it be turn of the century or earlier?

Nice set of finds - I didn't find many half crowns and then found seven in a year - and none since!

Like the ring too - still on my list of things to find. I don't know about the date, but gold and rubies were quite popular - certainly late 19th century / early 20th century - my great grandmother - I think like a lot of people had one probably from a catalogue - three rubies and a couple of diamonds.

I quite like the cap badges too - found my first artillery one this year  - from an old prisoner of war camp field - it's a nice size too Smiley

I think Royal Artillery cap badges can date back as far as 1903. My guess would be World War 1
