Little find from the weekend. It's about the size of a £2 coin. I have absolutely no idea what it was. If anyone has any ideas, let me know!!!

There's a lot of Tudor & Stuart history on the land I found it on.

Hazarding a guess as it is flat and looks as though there was a little gold plating on it, it may be an ornamental piece from perhaps a wooden jewellery box or some such item?

Interesting find. I agree it is probably a mount of some sort, and could be quite early.

Almost has an Anglo-Saxon/Viking period look to it, but hard to be certain from pictures - could be much later.

Sorry, that's called sitting on the fence  Roll Eyes

My guess is part of a chatelaine. Very decorative, nice find.

Thanks for the thoughts all. Val, that's a really interesting suggestion and I think you could be right looking at it closer, as there would have been loops running around the edge so it definitely fits with the chatelaine idea  Smiley

It's hard to see from the pictures but it does look like it has a Tudor rose on the one side, which would fit with other Elizabethan finds found close by.
