Hi guys and girls, this little chap popped up from a Roman field a few days ago, which is in high stubble and hard going over most of the field. Credit to the Deus again. lol.
Saxon Sceat... Series E Porcupine. Degenerate Head, Reverse Votive Standard with TOT 11, 695-740 AD.
So I am led to believe.  Wink

Tom and Ron I am trying to catch you up on your wonderful Saxon Coins of late... Grin Wink Roll Eyes

Another nice one Paul.
I often wonder what was the thinking behind the design of these coins. I know some of them were s’posed to be symbolic of the pagan gods but how do they arrive a symbols of a head ? Makes you wonder !
Anyway whatever, I for one wouldn’t say no to a few  Grin

Excellent find Paul.  Lovely condition too.  There's something special about these Saxon coins.  The three me and Ron have found in the last few weeks have all been of similar condition too.  Great find !!   Cheers.  Tom

I went to Cirencester museum on Friday with the children - nice selection of finds there, but I don't remember seeing much anglo saxon - but there were some magnificent gilded saucer brooches.
