Found this object in a field today where I've found other Roman items and coins nearby. It resembles a dolphin at the rear, although the head looks more like a lion but I'm not sure if I'm just seeing things in a lump of trash!!!  Huh

Also found my first double musket ball!

That’s a very fishy find.
Seems to have a tail but the rest is so badly distorted it’s hard to say what it was.
Double musket balls are a nice find though.

I have one of those double musket balls, can anybody share anything about them? Were they cast like that to be cut individually later? Or was it actually used like that, I wouldn't have thought so but then I don't know?

Taken from here - https://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts/record/id/393053
These 'dum-dums' are believed to have been effective when either shooting at horse, or shooting at ship sails, as the spinning motion when fired causes much damage to larger targets. They are believed to be a technology copied from the Spanish at around the time of the Armada in the 16th century.

I have found some of these made of iron on shipwrecks during my diving days, as spaceonwhite says they are fired from cannon, they spin end on end into the sails of the opposing ships tearing the sails and slowing them down to be taken as a prize. They where much larger than the one illustrated say 100mm in diameter.
As for one shown, I can only think it would ricochet of harder surfaces causing multiple damage. Maybe.🤔
