Please help me with these coins. They look genuine to me but I might be wrong. Bought them on ebay. Seller claiming they were found 30 years ago by father.
In the lot I can see gold stater- what tribe?
Wodan sceatta - what type?
And saxon penny?

Something tells me the Saxon coins aren't quite right, to me they look like possible forgeries - the Wodan Head especially. See what others say about them. The Lizzy, G.III and Stater look good.

Interesting lot, if the stater was found in the UK  it would have been imported from Gaul modern day France it's a Gallo belgic type. Can you put up some better photos of it.

I can't post better pictures because I don't have them yet. They were posted today.
Wodan head looks suspicious like modern day replica. I've seen many types of Wodan sceatta but never like this one that's why I'm asking. Huh

A very cleverly put together lot in my oppinion, with a good range of dates. The silvers are very similar in patination, as for being found 30 years ago, I've heard that lots of times lol. The Celtic looks good but fakes are, if just one of these coins are suspect and  doesn't look rite then the rest won't be rite either. Put up another picture of Celtic so Dale can look again.
I think you can work out my oppinion......need to handle lots like these to be 100%

The top rite looks genuine at least...

Wodan coin is probably genuine. Found this website and there is the same coin.

Hi Pablo, The site you found, and the picture showing the Wodan Head coins, I can't quite believe your coin is struck off center (9 o'clock) and the example you just shown is so similar (what I mean is its been struck (made) by the same person/Die), I know its not the same, but I still have doubt, but its just an opinion.

Just because you see a coin for identification in a magazine, doesn't make it (or yours) genuine.

For instance - the BM will identify something for you, but will not tell you if it is genuine or not  (personal experience).

In hand I would be able to tell for most of the coins whether they were genuine or not. My guess / feeling is that the sceat and penny are fake. The bullhead could be fine - the stater looks really nice - but then many of them (fake or otherwise) do - The button thing is genuine enough.

I'm always skeptical about any 'these were found by my father stories'. 99% are just downright fraudulent. Generally if there are a number of fakes in a lot like this, it would point to all the 'nice' coins being fake - it would at least cast significant doubt on them.

Could you tell us the seller? How much feedback do they have? Do they normally sell coins? How new a seller are they? These are some of the things I ask before I make a judgement to buy from someone new on eBay.
