I’m sure it’s not a button, there is no evidence on the back to suggest it is.
It’s quit heavy. It has GR and a crown on it. Not sure if it’s copper or bronze

I agree with Val, most likely an approved issue weight. Same sort of official stamp you can still find on a modern pint glass.

It would have probably been part of a set of officially approved weights, like you might have seen in shops before digi took over. Buying or selling.
Sad to say when my 1st hubby and I bought our first shop there was a ‘fan’ scale and weights and an old counter with a drawer for the money. Now that takes a few of you back Roll Eyes Grin

I remember a shop in Alltwen used to use a scale and trade weights to measure out sweets, that’s going back.🙀
