Found Sunday Oct.29th. a half vintem of Manuel 1st...1495 - 1521.

How did it end up here?..amazing,thatís from the period when we discovered Brazil,the maritime way to India and macau,king Manuel was a great patron of mariners and expanded the Portuguese empire.Theres an architectural style from that time.I can see the 5 shields we can still see on our flag,very nice.

Thanks for the info Andre..there is an old ship recovered from the tidal river mud at Newport that had Portuguese coins in it. I have looked at some pics of the coins but they don't look like this one. I found the coin north of Newport ....Byron.
