After many years of detecting a verifiable Roman has always eluded me. Today I finally ticked the box, and a silver too! Please don't tell my wife but this may be one of the happiest days of my life  Grin

Well found Simon.  It's a great feeling to find a first of anything, especially a silver Denarius. Ticks the box nicely.  You need to search that site for a few more.  Good hunting.  Tom.

It came up caked in muck, I didn't want to put a toothbrush anywhere near it so put it in the ultrasonic bath and it came out with that patch of silver showing through. What looks like a chip on the bottom is also just a bit of silver poking through. I can't see any damage to it at all  Smiley

It's actually a Trajan denarius, - as he was adopted by Nerva he had that as part of his name..nice find though.

Very nice indeed - personally I clean most silver coins that aren't milled - and this one has come up very nicely indeed.

Thank you, I agree. It took me about six hours to get it like this but I'm glad I did it because it's a stunner. The hard part was knowing when to stop.  Grin

You have done a great job simond, it had to be cleaned up and if Roland likes it then you have done justice to its appearance.  Wink
