Any tips for this machine would be appreciated. Went out for 2 hours today on aberavon. Very disappointing had a duracell battery ,  fishing hook and 2 ring pulls, the rest was iron objects. Ive turned most of the discrimination off to get used to the sounds, i know the sand isn't great atm but just want to make sure ive set it up right. The Targets were very deep today.

Nice one Matthew.

How are you finding the weight; I had heard tell that the 3030 can be a bit tiring for the arm?

Hi Matthew,
I don't have any knowledge of the CTX but I have used at least five different PI's over the years and based on my finds from many years of beach searching I would always recommend using a PI for the depth it will reach but I always searched with the discrimination switched off. It does mean that you will dig junk but after a while you get used to going for the smaller signals and ignoring the many large signals you will find on beaches. I'm sure if Neil reads this post he  can confirm the success I have had with 22ct rings over the years and I wish you luck. There are plenty still on beaches but they are deep !!!

weight isn't an issue , very well balanced machine. Just cant get used to the sounds , on the explorer iron was a low sound for more and everything else was high sound. just dont know how to set it up like that on the ctx3030. Thought about a pi but choose the ctx as i was used to the minelab explorer and thought it would be similar.

Stick with it Matthew, its the same for everyone, what about setting up a few test pieces in your garden, that's what I do,get yourself a small note pad and start jotting your Various readings,etc...take it out with you when next you go out detecting, then you have something to work with.... remember"low & slow !!... you'll get there just, take your time.
Good hunting...👍

hi beach mode.full tones, full disc rim,set on ferus coin, and enjoy Kiss high tones high conductors eg copper silver ally, low tones  low conductors eg tin foil, full discrim will knock iron out but in ferris coin settings will still pick up the good stuff even if its next to iron, Grin hope this helps

Thanks badgers for calling me to the board. First point is the coil. If you have standard 11" coil ctx is like the average machine but with 17" is the deep beast. Better than sov, little bit deeper in my opinion and defo better on separation targets close to big iron, second - DO NOT USE ground balance, turn it off, use only noise cancel. Set up with coil few inches above ground surface. This is two basic rules rest is just "cosmetics".
