Out today for a couple of hours on the pasture again, started off hot with tee shirt, then rained, goretex on, it got hot and sticky, sweating like a pig, rain stopped, goretex off, bit twice. Digging out a signal with gloves on and a piece of flint went straight thru glove and stuck in finger, back to car for cleaning wound, plaster on. Any way apart from that I recovered 2 more Annular brooches, or circular ring buckles as described in some books (Buckles by Ross Whitehead) The bottom 2 in picture are today's finds for comparison with the top one I found previously....Not sure why 3 should be so close to each other, all of similar large size.......Buckles exceeding 20mm which these do date to mid 13th-mid 15th cent. Fantastic finds again Paul.  The brooches are in such good condition.  What type of soil are your finds coming from? eg. clay, chalk/limestone, sand etc.  I see you mentioned flint, ouch !! and hope your finger is healing okay.  Lovely finds that anyone would be pleased with.  Happy Digging!! Tom.

Hi Tom, thanks for comments. Good old Wiltshire soil Tom so Flint, these come from black soil ie ancient habitation. On this pasture field I found myself occasionally sticking the spade in the ground and prizing turf back just to make sure I'm still in the dark sioil. It's a bit like searching for the black sand on the beaches, find that and the goodies will follow...Finger still a it sore not the first time I've done it and won't be the last lol... Wink

Well you said it was unusual to find so many close together. I can't see them being thrown out as rubbish so what other explanation can you think of.
Maybe an attack on the village ? Maybe burials ? And you did find the mount in the same area.
