Hi all,just found this items this afternoon,on my new permission parallel to a roman road.
Would like to know what type of copper nail is that,a three holed button and that artefact
about the size of a penny,so incrustated that I'm scared of cleaning it...don't want to damage it.

Hi Andre,

I can't help much, I'm afraid but I often find square shanked copper maritime nails on my regular beach but understand that very similar nails were used for wooden buildings inland.

I don't think that the item with the three holes is actually a button but for some reason it looks strangely familiar.

It's ok,not very easy to identify anyway.
As for the round ornate items one of them I was wondering if it could be a plate brooch of any era..
What's the best way to dislodge dirt without damaging artefacts,ultrasound?

I do use a small ultrasound bath for cleaning some objects but find that it is only any good for removing light crud. If you do go down that road I would suggest using distilled water and not nasty tap water, that is mostly chlorinated.

I have even wondered if it is perhaps worth using a light oil for cleaning items in my ultrasound bath.  I'm sure that someone will be along soon, with plenty of advice for both of us.

Some really interesting finds there Andre. Have a look on UK Detector Finds There are a few that look similar.
I was interested in the hinged 'buckle' but then decided it was probably a clasp. Never seen one like it, very nice finds.

Thanks guys,this finds are coming out of a little field,smaller than a football pitch,middle of two country lanes.The farmer did the 2nd cut the other day so I went there because all my other fields have crops on them,I get my car on the field so no need for rucksacks and I have been very thorough.I emails some pics to my FLO,see what she comes up with 👍

My FLO emailed me an ID.
She said that she looked at a book by G. Bailey,buttons and fasteners,500bc-
She said that she saw some similar to mine from the 1700's
