Quite possibly one of the most interesting artefacts i have ever seen on this forum. I would rather find something like that over any coin. Would love to see it 'cleaned' in all its glory. Great find, hope you treasure it.

Thanks guys appreciate all the interest, I am showing it to FLO soon and he is putting me in touch with some one who can clean and stabilise the metal and more importantly the enamelling, which appears losing its colour unfortuantly.
Trouble is they charge £45 p/h....I'm not sure how long it would take to stabilise and conserve. Being non precious metal I guess it's not worth any great value, it's value to me is in its rarity, history and beauty.
Will keep you updated.....Paul. Wink

WOW!!!!  Paul, fantastic and beautiful find.  Definitely, could be beneficial, (if affordable) if professionally cleaned.  Absolutely stunning!!  Keep them coming.  Tom.

That really is something special.

You wonder how someone could have lost something like that - it would be interesting to see if they FLO thought it might be a reformation loss / hiding. Like everyone else, I'd be really interested to see the conserved item.

As to cost - I asked about getting an Ant of Laelianus cleaned - and the guy said he would have to charge for a whole day's lab time.........so in my case the coin hasn't been cleaned....
