Not quite the correct shape, but could it be a hand guard, I think I can see a small indent on the flat side.

There is an indentation on the one side within the indentation there's a shape that looks like a triangle.

Do a google search for Antique Flat Irons. There's plenty to look at and they come in all sizes.  I'm sure you'll be convinced that your UFO is the base of one.

I was fooled by the size of the object [which wasn't immediately apparent when i quickly looked at the posted image].

Thanks for all your input but I've made my own conclusion regarding said UFO. I believe it to be a slice of fossilised birthday cake from the prehistoric era and I conclude that it was probable that it was a cave child's 4th birthday hence the presence of the marking which resembles the modern day number 4.
