Started out yesterday on a small roman field,it had been cultivated but left rough and what with the ground being hard due to lack of rain it wasn't as easy going as I would have liked, any way it only produced a few grots. I decided to go into the field next door, and concentrate on a gentle slope,  apart from the usual lead etc nothing of note came up from here in 2 hrs, as time was getting on and I had work I thought I would give it another half hour, the next 3 signals produced the following finds one after another and just goes to show, you just don't know where or when the goodies will appear. First was the crotal bell and a very fine example at that, although I am unable to find the maker's name for some reason despite the initials FL.. The next signal produced the half Groat of Henry V11. an ID would be nice. Not a few steps from this find and up popped the silver Sceat, say no more I was well pleased, typically it was time to leave just when I was in the zone, the crop is well up so not sure if I can get back this side of harvest.....Good luck to those out tomorrow ...

Fantastic half hour Paul. Shame it wasn't at the beginning of the session but then you'd have missed the Sun and excercise  Grin
Beautiful Crotal bell, would have liked to find one myself but they don't seem to turn up over here but we do get plenty of Cow horn protectors.
I was reading about the design of the sceat some time ago. They've always been called porcupine design but now they've decided that the spikes are hair and the bit underneath is a stylised head.
The Henry is in great condition, well found. Keep them coming.
