Lead curiosity

Found at NWDD dig on Sunday, near St Asaph, where we were expecting Roman goodies to be unearthed, but nothing of that age  was found...I know lead artefacts are hard to date.
A lot of old lead dross was dug in this area, some very oxidised and white.

Appears to be a stylus, any guess at age and why bent over?

wonder where that Roman fort is? Chester to the right and Caerhun to the left...probably under the Cathedral of this little city!

I'm convinced Myke that the site of the fort is under the cathedral, highest point at the top of the two hills and when you look along from the coast you can clearly see the cathedral. Imagine the view back then that the Roman sentries would have had

I'm sure i read somewhere they found some roman masonry in lower levels of the Cathedral ?

The lead pencil is indeed a stylus, probably used on slate and dates from 13th to17th century....a good indication that there is a lot more to found on that site....I dug it from quite a depth (just below plough level) after the spuds are out would be a good time to re visit.

It certainly is a lead stylus very likely roman.

 A few years back I found one on a roman site still with half of its wooden case
