Interesting stuff Jon. I bet it goes back even farther than that if we looked far enough. The Romans were very astute people and I am sure had ways and means which we have not given them credit for.

that's a very interesting item jon...i thought metal detectors where invented during the 2nd world war... Embarrassed....but that tells us they were around many many years before that !...byron

 I thought the 1st detector was invented my Thomas Edison and was used to try and locate bullets from a (successful) assassination attempt on a American President.......They didn't find the bullets in the presidents body due to not fully understanding the physics and were confounded by the signals emitted. What they actual were detecting was the bed springs that the patient was lying on.

Was'nt it Abraham Lincoln,i could never understand why they did'nt take him off the bed and then try it?
