Me and Ron visited a new farm for the first time yesterday.  After meeting the farmer and having a walk around his field boundaries we set about deciding which field to attack first.  A few fields directly behind some alms houses and a walled garden seemed to be a likely looking start point.  Finds came thick and fast, the usual rubbish and lots of George 5th coins.  We found nearly 50 coins, a silver sixpence, pennies, halfpennies, threepenny bits and a couple of farthings.  I found what is my second complete Crotal Bell (pea included), a pendant and other not-so-old artefacts.  Ron found a commemorative medal/token of the marriage between Prince Edward and Princess Alexandra of Denmark dated 10th March, 1863.

We were hoping to find some Roman as the farm is in a proper historical area.  Maybe next time we visit and try some other fields.  We'll have to wait and see!
When we finished detecting, exhausted and aching, we went back to the farmer and gave him all the coins and bits and pieces for him to start a farm history box.  He was really pleased and said we can visit anytime.  It will be at least a few weeks before we visit again, as we have other ground going under the plough shortly.
Happy Digging!!!  Tom.

Thanks for all the positive comments folks.  The farm is in a good area so prospects could be good.
Andre, the crotal bell was washed under the tap, all the muck cleaned out of it with a wooden skewer, then dried, and because it has such lovely patina I rubbed some renaissance wax over it for preservation and buffed it to finish.  Happy Digging!!!  Tom.
