Hi,
Found this recently - copper alloy with traces of gold gilding on some parts of the surface.
Any ID on this I will be extremely grateful.
Regards,
Steve

Looks like a clog clasp. Nice find. Not often they come up complete.

Hi,

Pretty certain it is not a clog clasp.

Some kind of spring mechanism in it.
Finely decorated with floral designs and traces of gold gilding on it.

Mark Lodwick (FLO National Museum Wales) does not even know what it is !

Is the floral pattern embossed ?
I think it could be a braces,  garter or suspender clip. Which would account for the guilding.
Either way it looks machine made so not too old.

My guess is a money clip. Seem to recall the Americans in particular used to use them for holding dollar bills etc in the pocket
