Great day to be out detectin, weather was perfect.
I had a fee coppers, loads of buttons and a nice bad seal.

Baltic States quartered cross shield with pellets.
The reverse gives the Grower/Owner agent the initials I.F.H with 12K crown quality flax plants in the bag.
These initials also occur at the West House mill site in Yorkshire.
Late 18th to early 19th century.

Further to  my find of the coin clump we are now happy that one of them is a Constantine so chances are that they all date around the same time.
One slight problem we have is that the chi-rho roman cross has a s and a * in addition to alpha and omega. I can only find one picture of this online which has no information with it this is the picture posted on here. Anyone that can help with that I would really appreciate? Possibly it could be a rare or uncommon coin to have the extra markings.
The coins are believed to be a purse drop which would of held them together before being subject to intense burning, possibly field burning.

Just want to say I enjoyed my first dig with the club and look forward to many more Smiley

Congrats on a great find Aledrod. Had you considered they may have been in a funeral pyre. Even as late as the 4th cent cremations were still being carried out.

Just a thought.

That's an interesting theory on the pyre really never considered that at all. Thankyou for all the comments maybe not a bad thing if they are from a pyre as its a good link to there history.

Some really great finds there guys, I had to leave a bit early as my back was playing up. Haven't washed my finds off yet but I definitely have to tokens one a flint lead mines 1813, the other not sure yet, a George third penny and a few other coins plus a couple of unidentifiable bits that might show better when I clean them. I won't be around until towards the end of march but good hunting on any digs between now and then

Interesting clump of coins.

They look like Magnentius / Decentius to me (as most of the Chi Rho types are, and even the one standing on a boat is a Magnentius type, although Constantius / Constans issued these as well).

It's unlikely they were on a funeral pyre with overtly Christian symbols  - pagans would have chosen something else - this lot dates to 350-353, and probably at the earlier end of this period.

Haven't found (quickly) the type with the extra 'S' in the field, but I haven't looked hard yet - it should help nail it down to a specific mint.

Thankyou for the research .I would certainly be interested if your able to find out what the s and the * are there for, can't seem to find it anywhere myself.
