Went across the border at the weekend to an LGD dig at Weston Lullingfields and had an interesting day. It was very nice to meet you there Myke. The day was cold and windy with sleet, rain and mud but finding this Roman fibula brooch really did make it all worthwhile. It made me stop and think that I was the first person to touch this since Roman times when someone found their toga flapping in the breeze and realised they had lost it...

Nice find. I often wonder if they lose em' or chuck em'! So many that are found are broke, it makes me think that someone was turning out shoddy Roman goods. Roll Eyes

Thanks all. I've looked at a few of these brooches online since and this was obviously at the cheaper end of the scale  Tongue

It was a nice clear sound up/down, left/right and one that just had to be dug. The funny thing was that I had only moved off line to that spot so that I could tidy up someone's poorly re-filled hole. This was less than three feet away and 4"-5" deep. How lucky am I that I did that  Grin
