Thanks Paul , I have been to Barry a few times but only found decimal coins are these areas only visible at low tide ?

Virtually the length of the beach about 60 yards out from seawall is a darker slightly more shale area  i was there in mid summer

and decided to only dig low tones on my explorer and just gridded about 100 yards towards the sea along this line had loads of items including a few silver joeys and an Australian 1912 silver threepence and tons of low conductivity items many fairground junk rings, badges etc.
You will dig ring pulls and other rubbish but i had a very enjoyable 4 hour spell.

Good luck....PaulB.

You can forget Porthcawl beaches these days. Six years ago I would average a gold ring every nine hours from the donkey beach. The heavy storms two years ago totally ruined a decent days detecting, although three weeks ago I did find a hoard, 64 two pence pieces within an area of 30 square yards. Still not enough to buy half a pint.

I was at Porthcawl (Trecco Bay and Sandy Bay) with my Ace 250 after Xmas. I was a newbie on my own, and predictably perhaps, I detected either nothing at all...or the whole damned beach. I feel slightly better to know that the beach had been sabotaged! Smiley
