anyone say what this is

Found on Sundays dig, is it part of a harness or what else as I find it strange. Part of the front has some purple coloring possibly enamel. As you can see it is large and I am not sure what metal it's made of

when i first seen the pic i thought a stand for an old fire iron,you know the type they put in a fire??
