Had my first ever metal detecting session this morning, in north Cardiff. Great fun and found this button. Researching online hasn't helped me age it. Would any of you knowledgable folk have any ideas?

Well done on finding something recognisable on your first outing. It's probably late 1700 to early 1800 with that sewing attachment.
Maybe a Tudor one next time  Grin

Some people would not want to put up a broken button, as a first detecting session but I admire your searching effort, and guarantee if you stick at it your effort will be rewarded with more finds of age and interest  Wink Oh and expect hundreds more buttons Lol...Thanks for showing...Spikey.

Thanks both. Realise it's not exactly the most exciting find to show off but still exciting as a first find with any history  Smiley

This post takes me back. . . We all have to start somewhere mate. Keep detecting and keep posting your finds. I can guarantee if you stick at it you will find Roman and Medieval finds.

I am a Cardiff lad myself and had some outstanding finds only ten minutes from home. It's all still out there waiting for you to discover it.

Keep at it

Thanks for the words of encouragement guys. Went out and had my second session the other day and found my first coin but it's too corroded to tell what it is, but still very exciting  Grin

Just secured a second permission and I think that site should yield some interesting finds!

You did well there not many get permissions anywhere in the Vale. Look forward to seeing pics  of some good finds.
