Spent 4 hrs today and only find on the wet sand was a fishing weight at about 2 inches so recent.

Beach was very flat and sand was very deep no signals except large deep iron.

Decided to go on the soft sand just to get something and found £1.60 which looked like it had been there a while and then a 9ct signet ring 😀

Beautiful day though and hardly anyone there so wouldn't have been disappointed anyway.

Huge beach and very daunting for a novice like myself.

Thanks both that makes me feel a lot better although it was more luck than judgement. I almost never dug it as next to it I got a ring pull and expected another it was only because I had been bored not getting any signals on the wet that I thought sod it. I have now learned my lesson and will not entertain not digging a ring pull again 😜

The smaller cove beaches I feel ok on its the larger flat beaches like Aberavon, Ogmore etc that I feel I'm way out of my depth.
