Hi to all,got this nice piece of copper out a few days ago,i think it is(was)a cartwheel penny.
But it does have a very strange stamp mark on one side, just make out the tell tale rim as on cartwheel penny's.
Any further information greatly appreciated, and, thanks for looking..👍

Not sure what it is Chris but it's not a cartwheel.  They have a raised ridge around the edge on both sides.
Nice chunk of copper though. Bet it gave a cracking signal.

hi Dingdong.   if its a cartwheel penny, it will have a diameter of 36mm and a weight of 1oz.

having said that, Mrs H found one last week with a 36mm diameter and a weight of 0.83oz.   due to its corrosion!

check it out

They were countermarked for all sorts of reasons - I've got a couple advertising razors and Lloyds weekly newspapers - they were also used for curtain weights which is why so many of them have loads of edge knocks.

Hi Alan and Jonathan, just measured an weighed my cartwheel coin and the diameter is exactly 36 mm,and the weight is exactly 23 grammes(0.8ozs)
And the stamped on marks as seen on Jon's cartwheel penny is exactly identical to the stamp marks found on my coin.
Many thanks to you both for your help on the ID of this very spurious coin . Huh
