MAD COWS EAT METAL DETECTORISTS !!!🐂🐂🐂🐂🐂🐂

« on: July 16, 2016, 04:35:52 PM »

Hi to all,
Managed a few hours out on Thursday, found a few coins which I will post a little later, once they have had a good clean.
Well,i was trudging away as usual, getting a bit fed up with a lot of external interference from overhead cables, and electric fences when I got the signal of dreams, well this was the culprit !! A piece of melted down silver, although I didn't know it at the time.
It wasn't till I got back home and did the "foil & spittle" test, confirmed by the smell of rotten eggs !!
It weigh's in at 33 grammes(1.1 ounces)..
God knows how how it got there,it was down at a depth of over nine inches.
The that it was found on was pastures, but only across the road from my recently found Roman field.
I will be contacting my FLO on Monday.
But it just goes to show how brilliantly unpredictable this fascinating hobby of  metal detecting can be.

I bet some one was pig sick when they lost that - unless - it was buried.
Did you have a good search around the find spot Chris.
I've thought, on the q.t . There could be Viking anywhere around that area. Hope jayhay is right, wouldn't that be a find and a half. Alternatively it could be melted down clip silver off all those hammered coins we find.
Be interesting to know what the FLO makes of it. You realise it might be claimed.
Great find.

Hi Nobby, yes I suppose it does look a bit like that, but it may be the angle of the photographs !!
I am becoming even more intreaguid the more I look at it.
Using my jewellers loop the object seems to have an interwoven wire pattern on it at certain points,it could possibly be melted down coins,it certainly is very  different  from my normal finds.
The site of the find is approximately the length of a football pitch from  where my Roman finds field is situated,so yes I suppose it could even be Roman.
Anyway,Nobby, many thanks for the interest shown, and it will be interesting to see what the FLO have to say !!...👍
