I have read on the internet that it's a common problem for the garrett pro pointer. I have only used it a handful of times, I bought it about 3 years ago so all warranty has run out. Shall i try and fix it myself? or can anyone recommend someone i can send it to to get it repaired thanks  Wink Grin

Try loosening the top by half a turn. Sounds daft but if you tighten it up too much it will false.
Also try a different battery. They're not all the same size and some makes will cause falsing.

What battery are you using? Try a Duracell battery, it worked when my Garrett probe was falsing , not all batteries are exactly the same size. I also stick a piece of tape over the speaker grill to stop water penertration

This problem has been discussed before, it depends on the mineralisation of the soil or sand, low to medium mineralisation to will work without any problem, but if it is high it will false all the time, as soon as you touch the soil.
The only way I have found to cure it, is to push the probe into soil and switch it on, be careful you are not near the target as it will not detect at all.

I agree with Greg as mine plays up in some soils but I have found if I turn it off and then touch the sill a few inches from the hole with the end and turn it back on it is fine again.

Along with the battery issue, mine plays havoc if there is any moisture around - generally nowadays I keep mine (with the battery cap and button cover off) in the airing cupboard - certainly makes a difference.

I bought a cover and bungee cord and so far it works perfect although will false if i push it in too hard which stops me doing that so i hope it will last longer
