Hi guys,  I was out today and this popped up and believe it or not it was sat in the bottom of the hole at just over 12", a terrific depth I feel considering the size, and it was a clear dig me signal......(ploughed and rolled)  Deus of course...any way to me it looks Roman ? possible strap fitting of sorts, I'm really not sure appreciate your thoughts.....it does look like a duck's beak.  Grin Wink

It's quite obvious Paul, you have the MALE bit. Roll Eyes

Seriously though, I was going to suggest it may be a buckle that was in a leather strap at one time.  The bits that stick out would have been pushed through the leather and bent back to secure.  If the strap and your thingy were pulled out the attachment bits would have been bent strait (or straiter)
