                        You are spot on there with those comments. Our hobby is so faceted and intriguing, it beggars belief. The history in the coinage, the knowledge in the artefacts, studying the geographical / historic lay of the land and the getting to know our farming communities are but a few things we can associate with our time spent discovering what lies beneath the sod.

                        When I unearthed a very well worn coin from the driven sands of my regular beach, I gave it a quick clean and posted a pic on tinternet. Within the day, back came an id for me. The coin was almost blank, except for an almost indeterminable profile on one side of what I thought was possibly a Roman coin. You have a George III halfpenny of either this year or that, was the reply.

                        How the hell did he work that out? Well, says he; "that was the only two years that they used that profile on George III coinage".

                        Many thanks to all you folk for posting your finds, giving us that all important id; and above all, suffering us many newbies.
