OLD MAPS - UPDATE

A lot of you will already know about "British History On Line" I found it ages ago and had it on my list for Old Maps. A good resource but infuriatingly small and slow to use.
In the process of getting my book marks on my tablet (for the second time !!) I discovered that they have up-dated the Map section.  If you can work your way through the maze to find a map of the area you're interested in each page and you select the 1st Ordnance Survey 1868 - 1892 it gives you a list of areas to choose from, or you can chance entering a place in the search box. 
Once you select a page you can zoom in for a really detailed view which shows field boundaries and old tracks plus any buildings that where there at the time.  I can now put some names to lumps and bumps I spotted on LIDAR.
As they say,  every little helps.

I would say use http://www.visionofbritain.org.uk/maps/ they've always had that system but no maze

  I know it's a different site the British History site that you posted is brilliant for documented research but for maps the Vision of Britain is far easier all you do is zoom in to the area and click on the left which map you want

Sorry about that Geoff. I only realised after that I'd misunderstood what you said.

I use that site and it  is quite good but the up-dated version of British History is more detailed. i.e. field boundaries, lanes, old tracks, limekilns, cottage names.
Remember you mentioned the Pill and I said I'd seen something there on LIDAR. It was a cottage, same name as the Farm. Also another with a really odd name  "Merry Pastime Cottage"  Wonder what the merry pastime was ?
