Great result, can only be good publicity for the sport. And nice to see someone who will give their time to help others.

Thanks everyone for the comments.

Oh yes I did. At least 3 times. And from different angles.  Wink
The problem was that the area was full of junk, foil, bottle tops ect and the Deus was giving signals all the time despite me playing with the discrim and sensitivity.

Probono.
You asked about Etrac settings.
In the discrimination settings I blacked out the whole screen then waved a few gold rings over the coil and used the accept/reject button to accept only them signals. ( Minelab call this "Auto latch mode" pg 48 in instructions).
It finished with a black screen apart from a small white line at 12:07 to 12:30.

I used Deep off. Fast on. Trash High. Ground difficult and turned the sensitivity down to 15.
The detector was then very quiet and ignored all the junk and deep stuff.
I had 2 signals that were bits of rolled up foil just in the surface then 3rd signal...BINGO.

Thanks for the explanation - I always wonder about how much to discrim - generally I run it quite wide open - I've certainly found quite a few things that I would have missed otherwise - but then I've never found a gold ring with my ETRAC - just some gold hammereds (I actually found the first one in the spoil with a pinpointer, after finding some groats) And I still don't know where they came as I was too excited! Sounds like the ones you tried came on the 'coin' line.

I play around with the trash and ground settings too - most of the fields I search in are empty, so low trash neutral ground helps - I've just always felt that the detection distance for gold on minelabs seems to be small -but then I never found any gold with my Deus...

Way to go Landyman.  That's a reward in itself and could mean more than money. Wink
