Hi Guys
After some advice,
Whilst digging in my back garden i came across a coin about the size of an old 5p, it appears to have a very young Queen Victoria on the front and possibly Britannia on the rear, it looks like copper or some sort of copper alloy as it was very green when i found it. Any idea of what it is and more importantly how do I clean it without causing any damage.

Thanks in advance

Peter

Sounds like it might be a Farthing.  You could try soaking it but usually if the patina comes off you loose the profile and end up with a blank.  Maybe someone might have an idea or two but I've never been very successful with coppers.

Agree with Val in that it sounds like a farthing, as it's not anything rare try soaking it in olive oil for a week Wink

It could be a Vicky half penny, it's closer in size to the old five pence, only just though.
