Thingy-ma-bob

                   With the commencement of a beautiful sunny autumn day, the mist chased away by Mr Sunshine and a warm wind blowing in from the east, I decided to put in some time on the beach before we finally return home. Despite the back still playing up, I managed to keep swinging till 1630 and then  retreated back to the caravan for tea and a well earned rest.

                   Managed to capture £1.37p in decimal coinage, a 1958 sixpence, four copper pins ( not maritime nails ), one ear stud, a small round shoe button, and one "thingy-ma-bob".

                   Any ideas what the thingy-ma-bob is? It appears to have been cast and has casting seams running from top to bottom on both sides. What initially looks like a thread of wire wound round one end, is actually part of the casting.

                  On closer inspection it looks to be made of bronze and possibly somewhat rude.

Could it be Roman?

It's part of a trigger snap hook they use on dog leads or on the donkeys harness

                           Hmm, perhaps you are right. Comparing it alongside a 5p piece I would think that it is a wee bit small to hold a donkey. I will pop it in the ultrasound bath when we get home and see what the patterning is under the grime on that upper flange. It looks as though there was once a matching flange on the lower side. Perhaps it may be part of a trigger snap off a ladies handbag?

                           I'm still not sure what to make of the copper pins though. We get plenty of copper maritime nails and roves in the sands at Talacre but the pins are something new.
