Got it soaking in oil just in case...👍
Any ideas at all?

Got to admit it's a fascinating find Mark.  I was just saying on Paul latest post about how acid our soil is. It'd be great if we could have seen it when it was 1st made, it must have been stunning.  Shame we don't know what it was for.

Sorry guys being lazy again thought someone would have got this one....well for my money it's just the end of a buckle Huh the recess is where the pin would have contacted the frame, it's a big one but these D buckles were widely used not only for dress but for horse harnesses and have a wide size and date range from the 13th right through to the early 17th century.

Of course, now I can see it.  See what I mean about the quality of our finds. Acid soil makes everything look 500 years older than it is.

Maybe that's why I do too  Roll Eyes          Thanks Geoff, was bugging me.

Oops missed this one Mark, and guys. Good job we can rely on Geoff, as Val says such a shame about the soil it has laid in that said 10 inches deep good is a good recovery but then I suppose you had the CTX on the end of your arm mate Huh It would have found that deeper though  Wink Angry
