Slabs can be expensive if you have a lot of coins, I only slab the ones that I treated with bronze disease or the silver ones I worry about.
I use coin trays they somehow keep you in contact with your coins slab stacks are not my favorites some dealers do that to preserve coins and prevent skin grease from affecting them.it is a matter of taste.

Probably wrong but I like to be able to handle my coins, I like to feel them in my hands.
Dont think Id even slab my George 1st half guinea and that's probably worth a grand at auction.

Ditto Will slabbing is more of an American thing and even then it's for those investing in coins rather than collecting them I would think it's a counterfeiters dream Wink

was thinking of protecting them,
 dropped 1/4 noble other day never been on my knees quicker in my life. still look at it most weeks with a little chat ( where are the rest of you !! ) jay cgs have a range of prices from £13.75 to £95 depending on coin value.

I hadn't heard that expression, so a quick trawl for a definition and i came across this

"Definition: Slabbing is a slang term for the process of encapsulating a coin in a permanent plastic holder, as practiced by coin grading services. [cgs]"

Personally, if I buy a slabbed coin, I smash it out as soon as possible (I don't buy the ones that if you breathe on them they halve in value).

For me, a large part of the reason for having coins / detecting is to be able to actually feel the items - I was saying to the missus the other day that the minute I take the lot down to the bank for storage I might as well stop collecting.

Got to go with that "Probono" I must say that there isn't a much better feeling than to take a look an touch the coins,and remembering where and when they came to light,very satisfieng!!
And the only thing better is actually getting em out of the soil !!👍

True - and that's why even my grotty romans that I've found are much better than (almost) any I've bought, pity I've only got photos of the nice ones I found Sad
