A friend dropped by the other day to bring me some old detecting magazines. I found a snippet in 'Letters to the Editor' in a 1979 Treasure Hunting which may help some of us with battery life. I know that some machines use dedicated batteries, but if anyone is using throw-away batteries this may be of use.

I quote: "The manager of the Ever Ready Company in Glasgow advised me to use two sets of batteries for my detector advised me to use two sets of batteries and to change them over after every four hours of use. He says it doubles battery life by avoiding full strain on one set - and he guarantees this method to be effective."

I use Ni-Cads anyway so it won't help me but if it saves someone a few pennies it must be worthwhile - and it keeps the coil swinging for longer . . .

Worth a try, I suppose.

Thanks for the heads up on that one.  Smiley
