Yes it gave a signal of 95 on the old Deus, I knew it was not Iron so I had to investigate, 6 inches down and I took this out expecting some thing beneath it...Roman quern stone...reason for signal! a piece of melted lead attached see round hole in picture approx 3 o'clock. Its a bit different so I thought I would post it.  Ooops will post coins tomorrow.

Well whatever, it's a great find Paul.   Not one that usually comes up, except on a proper dig.  Well done.

Fantastic - I usually pick up bits of quern to take home, but I haven't personally found a bit that big (my mother found a complete upper stone once).

I know what you mean about bits of lead in stone - about two years ago I had a strong signal which I dug which turned out to be a big roundish stone with some lead in it - no idea what the farmer has done with it, but I'm thinking now it might have been some kind of weight / counterweight. - in my case the lead was on the underside of the stone, and it took some digging to get it out.

Lead was generally how they set iron fittings into stone, hooks, hinges etc.
