Hi Beachhnter101,interesting little find,its only an idea but i was wondering if it could be the top of an inkwell suited to a quill pen.
Was it a beach or land find?

Well it may well be from an old shipwreck, after all writting materials were widely used by captains and senior officers on board ship.
Even nicer if it is!!
Just had a look at old mustard pots on Google,!!! Well it could be something on those lines(mustard pot lids)
