Hey everyone

On Sunday I found a very old looking badge in my village. It has 2 hooks on the back where it might have been attached to clothing. On the front it has a little bit of gilding with a crown at the top and a Tudor rose at the bottom. I will try and post pictures up soon.

I would say it has the same use ie a mount, 99% of pilgrims badges were made as cheaply as possible to maximise the church profits and so are lead I can't think I've heard of a gilded one Wink

A royal retainers badge maybe and from the Tudor period..The crown could only come with approval of monarch and the Stanley family the most  most powerful of Northern families..Probably involved with the deaths of princes in the tower and his men most certainly killed Richard 111 at the battle of Bosworth fieild..They were the lords of Isle of Man,they dropped the kingship title of man were probably entitled to wear a similar badge on their horse harness..,..Just a thought ..Rob
