Well as you can see the crop of maize has showed its self, what with not being back on the field until Wednesday earliest I think my time is  now limited  Cry hey ho, the coins on the pottery are medieval left and roman right for those who wouldn't know. Its a shame about the spur being bashed up, first one I have had as well for years. Any one have an idea on the Token /Jetton with the roman type bust ? Hope you enjoy the pictures, have a good weekend and a productive one if your out. Wink Oh by the way you may notice the pattern pieces of lead are more of the piece I posted earlier ?

Another productive time out - I just amazed constantly at how productive your site(s) is(are). I know they're over the border.

I'm interested that you seem to have a lot of buckles, but don't show many buttons - I seem to find plenty of buttons, but not so many buckles, or coins, or anything else apart from shotties.....

Roland I often think to same about Pauls finds, I don't live to far from him but the finds we find on a regular basics are quite different, I cant recall any of my mates or me even finding a clothes fastener, or Roman tweezers, we find lots of Roman coins but not many brooches??

Nice finds once again Paul Wink

I think it's all about dates, buckles and buttons are from different periods, coins and brooches are from different periods if you get both then you have evidence of longer, and probably continuous, land use which means greater opportunity of things ending up in it Wink

Hi Roland, I tend to stick to the same few sites and generally the more ancient sites Roman hardly ever turn up later finds medieval , buckles etc. probably due to there geographical positions, I guess by the early medieval period these sites were less favourable and so they occupied lower more sheltered areas and more fertile land. I do find buttons but rarely put post them  Huh  Perhaps in future I will , clearly they are less interesting to look at than buckles etc, but I do appreciate they are all part of the history of the fields searched .  Wink Wink Wink

Thanks Dale, interesting points mate. I've often thought some of my fields were just worked in a lot, and hence lots of brooch losses ? One of the sites I'm sure does not contain occupation in as much as dwellings ie no pottery, soil discolouration, but still throws up nice finds  Huh Unlike my medieval fields where dwellings were dotted around and where they spent much time in the fields working and probably trading and walking through following tracks and roads.  Wink Wink
