I wonder if it was a bar brooch. The little loop at the bottom may have hade a jewel dangling from it.

At first glance it looked very German and I thought cap or lapel badge but I'm more in favour of the brooch.  Very nice find, can't beat a bit of silver and mystery.

Nice find buddy,a nice bit of silver,seems a bit Germanic, it looks like the cross on the "red barons" aeroplane!!!
