Do you think yours may be similar to this when unravelled? Any similarities?

Wow Cardiffian where did you find that.  It looks pretty close to me.  What was it listed as.

It'll be interesting to hear what conclusion the FLO comes up with but it might be a long wait.

That's what I was thinking Dylan.  Like the Police used to have but they had a clip on each side, so two round thingies.
That looks too fine for that so I'll go for a Victorian necklace for my 1st guess and an Indian design chain for 2nd.

Is it silver ?

Val

Hi Val. I wasn't the lucky finder. It was found by a friend also called Val while 4 of us were detecting in 2013. This came up off a site that consistently produces roman, through to medieval. The find was shown to several 'experts' and Flo's, and the opinion ranged from roman to medieval. Eventually after much deliberation the item was seen by someone at the BM who is an expert on Indian jewellery, and metalwork. It was identified definitely as being of Indian origin, dating to the 19th century, and would have adorned an Indian shirt. Remember your second choice! I know that the Id on Andy's find is most likely correct. However, I thought I would post, for him and other to see, as there are similarities.

Definately a button Cardaffian, as per link, I think your pictures remind me of a chatelaine (I think I've spelled that right...)  I did wonder if mine may have been something along those lines to start with, but I think the FLO has hit it on the nail with the button for sure.

16 silver wire balls came out of semi pagan Vikingn grave inside Peel CASTL IN 1980s and iam looking on Manx National Heritage site ..My feeling is those Viking balls were more fragile without suspension loops, but it would be worth a follow up with museum curator Alison Fox.. w.Theyere found the knees and lower legs Rob

HI Cardifian, what a great find.  You see they don't always get it right, do they.  It reminded me of Indian because I have one. Admittedly modern, well 1960's, but you can see, as you said, there are similarities.
I bought mine in a Rabbit Warren of a place that used to be in Birmingham. What you couldn't buy there wasn't worth buying. Hippy, Hippy, Hippy.  Roll Eyes
