Oh yes, I remember it well

Out yesterday, on my own and a new permission.
Field was right next to a railway line with a small level crossing which is not used much these days.
Found a small camping area with a good scatter of pre decimal and a badge which I thought might tell me who was camping, scouts, boys brigade etc.
The badge is no clue whatsoever, neither was the lipstick, but did find a halfpenny that had obviously been put on the rail line to be flattened by a passing train.
Memories, memories. We used to do this as kids, coin on the line then hide down the embankment. Great excitement as train approached, only a yard from the great wheels as they thundered past. Halfpenny would be thrown off line immediately then the hunt to find it afterwards.
No railway police then. Touch the rails and feel the impulses as the train got nearer.
Omg, you would batter your grandkids today if they did it. No, sorry, no longer allowed
