Hi All,

Do you think our club website could do with an upgrade?

Bonuses are:

a managed forum for members only (log in easy controlled system)
a fresher newer attractive design
easier to manage/create new HTML pages etc
new photograph system design

Cor Meibion Morlais website cost them £500 (I think) but because I'm a member with the choir the guy called Yusuf said that he would be able to give us discount (if we decided to go for an upgrade).  Yusuf also said that it would be cheaper for us anyway because we already have a hosting package and URL address (but I think I would like to change it becuase t is missing in www.raremetaldetecingclub.co.uk) Obviously we would have to see how much a new website would cost. What do RARE members think? Would be good to hear your views. At the moment the website software is quite complicated and it would be good to have a forum (which is controlled for members only - log in system) and it would be easier for me to manage the website, plus we would have a newer fresher look.

Please see choir website to see what Ysuf did for them: www.cor-meibion-morlais.org.uk This is the company which designed the choir website: http://www.slickermedia.com/

You are right Phil - we tend to post our finds of the month and rally details on the Cardiff Scan forum now - everyone just joins in for the general chat on DW.com - it isn't necessarily a bad thing, as there is a bigger audience on here.  Unless you wanted to go the route at R.A.R.E of a closed forum for members only, I don't see a real advantage of setting up your own forum, instead you could use the area on DW.com for clubs, which is already set up. perhaps this could be brought up in next meeting! I think we need a new fresher attractive website. It certainly would be easier for me to manage.

Hi All,

just had an e-mail from Yusuf (who built the choir website) and he has give us an approx cost of the website. If you notice the choir forum is hidden for guest users so that guests can't access their forum.  There is a choir member log-in link at the bottom of the page which we could have on our website (if we decided to go along with it).  I'm part of the admin team of the choir website and it's so much easier to use than the software I currently use for the club website.  Please see choirs website to see what I'm talking about.

We would also have a better URL address if we decided to go along with a better website.  I think this is the way forward because our club website has proven to be a success (even though I say so myself lol) because we have gained a couple of members and also Detectingwales.com has proven to be a help as well. So I would like to thank Detectingwales.com for informing members about our club.

I shall tell you more next meeting.
