My first detector was a Sol Invictus Finder, bought it in the late 70s. Found some nice silver viccies with it. I used to find 303 bullets on the hillsides around Llandudno, polished them up and flogged them to my schoolmates  Smiley The cool thing then was to make pendants from them - made you look well 'ard.

Hi Slowsearcher.
I also had the Viking bfo 50. Got it when they first came out after seeing one of the surf bums in Cornwall find a days spending money in minutes by just working the loose sand at the top of the beach.
Happy detecting days. You could fill your pockets with enough change to pull your trousers down in those days. Didn't look for iffy signals or jewellery. just good loud, no headphone screeches

My first detector (which I had until about 2 years ago) was from Radioshack - I did find quite a number of items in my parents' back garden with it, but in general I had more luck by eye than with using it.
