Doug, you always manage to turn up some interesting finds.  How nice to have ground that has seen some human traffic over the years.  Judging by the number of cow horn protectors I've got I think there were more cows than people. In fact I know there were.
I love that little button with the flower, it's a Gentian by the way. Is there any sign of colour on it. As Gentians, in the main, are a beautiful shade of blue, it would have been lovely when new.

Thanks Val,

No colour in the button, been in the ground a long time!
