I found this many moons ago in my parents attic and transferred it to my attic where it has sat lonely for the past 15 years.

I have a fair idea of the age but would be interested if any one has an opinion or can date it more accurately. Its a shame the blade point had corroded with age.

There is also a small amount of damage to the quillon and the guard - interestingly they line up, I am guessing from receiving a defensive blow?

We occasionally find the quillion, pommel and guard parts so its interesting to see them in situ.

Very nice sword, they have a nice collection in chatsworth house, and guns  Smiley

I was thinking early 1800's Geoff by the style of it, so that would tie in nicely. It may need to be upgraded from rotting in the attic!

Out of curiosity anyone have any idea where I might pick up an appropriate scabbard?

nice sword neil , as to a scabbard your out of luck mate , the cavalry dress sword shop up the road from me closed a few years ago  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy  your best bet would be a re-enactment group they should help

Very nice Neil. Wish I could find something nice in the attic.
 Must admit though there are a few things we've put up there that are now considered to be antiques.  Roll Eyes 
I did find several pieces of gold chain  in Grand Dads bits box in the shed after he died.  Took them to a Man I knew who put them together to make up a complete chain. He said the gold tested for 22ct  so I s'pose that was a nice find.
