hi just a thought. i've noticed a lot of people post pics of there finds on the site but most dont find their way to the gallery usually just entered under "todays finds"etc
if the general finds under "gallery" were sub divided into specific groups ie.
 coins -  celtic, roman,saxon,hammered,milled
artifacts- celtic ,roman etc
this may encourage people to "file" their finds .not only that but we'd have our very own data base and research facility.
if someone finds a Elizabeth l groat thats a bit grotty and they file it under coins- hammered they may come across a better example. this system could also help with I.D.s
anyway just a thought.  what do you guys think?

I think that’s a good idea Kev.  Seen a few detector sites with that arrangement and it’s much quicker to browse by category.

just thought it would help us all I.D. and research our finds. we have a few experts on here already perhaps one of them could be a verifier, if they'd be willing ofcourse.
and why use other sites databases when we could develope our own. as long as its not too much trouble for Admin and moderators that is. glad some of you guys think its a good idea anyway.

Great idea Kev. Certainly makes cataloguing simple and if you need to compare it is right there for you.

seems to be a popular idea but not sure how easy it would be to instigate it. perhaps geoff or neil could answer that one.
thanks anyway

Ok , Once someone posts a find up and pic , anyone can cut and paste that pic to the Gallery  i.e File it in the right Album. Trouble is how many 'Albums' would we need to categorise everything?

Rob under coins you'd only need maybe celtic, roman, anglo-saxon, hammered (post 1066) and milled.
i didnt mean a list of every king/queen and emperor

Well that should be easy enough . The Albums just need be created in the Gallery and sorted!

Rob the only reason i ask is that there are some really nice finds posted here that never seem to make the gallery, and after a day or two get demoted to obscurity. i know that its up to the "postee" to place their finds in the gallery not the "admins or moderators" perhaps this system would encourage us all to post our finds in the gallery and so build up a very good database accessable to all, members or not, thus building a more comprehensive picture of our history.
who knows perhaps the "archies" will thanks us for enlightening them...........ok  ok i went too far that time  Wink
