Hi all. I found a part of a statuette today in a garden. It's not complete sadly, the head, both arms and both lower legs are missing. It would be about 6 - 61/2 inches tall if complete. Its cast from greyish metal. Sorry that's all the info I've got on it. Can somebody give me some tips on cleaning it up so I can perhaps take some better pictures?
Thanks

Is it heavy? Looks like lead with iron staining, is it possible to scratch the metal to find out how hard it is? Can't see anything to be gained by cleaning it up!

Sorry crashland sounds a bit rude that.
To clean it up I would soak it in warm water and try some gentle brushing to start, when you know what you are dealing with , metal wise then you can decide what to do to take further action.

One of the members told me that is made of spelter. The torso is hollow but the legs seem to be solid as far as I can tell.

If it is spelter crash there isn't a lot you can do with it other than keep dry brushing it until you get the effect you want and then wax it, very brittle stuff.
