As in any market, its only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it.

Well obviously because some, not that one, are valuable and also if you were to keep all your finds your collection becomes ridiculous and it gets to the point that they never get looked at or appreciated and so you have a few choices.... sell, donate to a museum or give back to the land owner and their are good arguments for and against all three but the most important thing is that they are recorded with the PAS after that only you can decide Wink

That's the easy fakes to spot, there's early Saxons fakes being sold (made of silver) making good money, and two roman gold's the other day, being sold by eBay's usual fraudsters, one of the UKs biggest dealers has even said on his web page to watch out for a certain seller on eBay and even said his user name.

I found a gold stater and had five free copies made as part of the deal to include the coin in a catalogue. Somebody bought one of the reproductions for £2.50 and went on to sell it for hundreds of pounds. I've written about it before, but it will resurrected in a new blog post soon.

Why would people sell there finds ?

Perhaps to invest in a better detector?  Wink

As for said coin; it has now been withdrawn from sale!  Huh
